Project Overview
Designed and coordinated the electrical systems for the multi-phase expansion of a rural health district campus in Lakeview, Oregon. The project included a new 4,300 SF clinic building (Building 4), a new 1,860 SF common reception area, and remodels to Clinic Buildings 1 and 2. Work involved new electrical services, HVAC power distribution, lighting systems, and coordinated upgrades to support expanded patient services, diagnostics, and administrative functions. A critical component of the work included service coordination with Pacific Power for transformer upgrades and sectionalizer integration to support the expanded campus load.
Role & Responsibilities
Electrical Service & Distribution – Engineered a reconfiguration of site electrical infrastructure with three main distribution panels (MDPs), multiple 200A–800A feeders, and integrated transformer upgrades to support multiple buildings.
HVAC Power & Coordination – Provided new feeders for HVAC units across multiple buildings, coordinated closely with the mechanical engineer.
Power, Lighting & Controls – Designed power and lighting layouts for exam rooms, labs, and administrative spaces, using occupancy sensors, dimmers, and photometric planning to meet healthcare lighting standards.
Security, Access, and Communication – Provided infrastructure for access control, security cameras, and network/data systems in coordination with vendor-provided equipment.
Site Power Planning – Engineered power distribution routing across a multi-building site, including spare conduit provisions and planning for future gift shop and specialty equipment loads.
Key Challenges & Solutions
🔹 Phased Construction with Live Facility Operation – Required maintaining service to existing buildings while demolishing and rebuilding electrical systems.
✔ Solution: Developed detailed demolition and refeed plans, staged panelboard modifications, and coordinated shutoffs with facility stakeholders and Pacific Power.
🔹 Utility Coordination Across Multiple Transformers and Service Lateral Upgrades
✔ Solution: Managed approval process with Pacific Power for transformer replacements, trenching plans, and new primary/secondary terminations.
🔹 Labeling Gaps in Existing Panels During Design
✔ Solution: Supported the design team with a flexible strategy allowing field verification and on-the-fly refeed adjustments for mechanical, power, and lighting circuits.
Outcome & Impact
✅ Upgraded service capacity and infrastructure for a growing rural clinic system
✅ Delivered robust power distribution systems tailored to each building’s specialty function
✅ Created future-ready infrastructure with planned expansion pathways and spare capacity built in
